About David Thoener

David started his career in 1974 as an assistant engineer at the Record Plant in New York City. He learned his craft working on such seminal albums as Aerosmith "Toys In The Attic," Bruce Springsteen "Born To Run," David Bowie "Young Americans," John Lennon "Walls and Bridges," Electric Light Orchestra "Face The Music" and Richie Blackmore "Rainbow Rising."
David began engineering and mixing records in 1976, and since then has enjoyed a thirty year run of hit records including classic records for AC/DC ("For Those About To Rock") , John Mellencamp (including "Little Pink Houses"), John Waite (including the smash "Missing You"), J. Geils Band (all of their hits), Matchbox 20 and many others.
In 2000, David won two Grammys -- Record of the Year and Album of the Year -- for recording and mixing "Smooth" by Santana featuring Rob Thomas. In 2005, David mixed hit records for Rob Thomas "Lonely No More", Jason Mraz "Wordplay", Canadian rock band, Idol Sons, in 2006 country artist Faith Hill's "Fireflies" and several hits on Sugarlands new "Enjoy The Ride" CD . 2010 was an international year for David, starting with a co-production with Kyle Cook of Matchbox 20 for recording artist John Waite. David co-produced, engineered and mixed six songs on the new 2011 release “Rough and Tumble”. Then a project with Swedish recording artist ViVi, followed by Australian artist Sinead Burgess and singles for EMI Mexico recording artists The Jaguares. David mixed seven songs for Sony Nashville artist Adam Brand then off to Japan for Yamaha recording artist Miyuki Nakajima.
Returning to the States to mix Nashville recording artists Here Comes The Mummies new CD Carnal Carnival. David worked on a benefit album on and off during the year by Alex Woodard for families who have lost loved ones to tragedies. The year ended working for producer Don Was on a solo CD for Saul Hernandez, lead singer of the Jaguares. David was very happy to hear his mixes on television shows HOUSE, BIG LOVE and THE EVENT, and movies GROWN UPS and LITTLE FOCKERS. David also enjoyed hearing some of his work on Target and Conan commercials last year.
2011 starts off with mixes for EMI Mexico artists Caifanes Tribute Vol.2 CD and mixes for producer Matt Mahaffey with work scheduled in LA and Japan for Miyuki Nakajima.
